Is this the change we wanted for the Sony Xperia?

The wait for Sony’s next flagship device is growing, fueled by rumors that have been circulating for weeks. The new Xperia 1 VIII is at the center of media attention, especially since fans of the Japanese brand had long hoped for a redesign capable of refreshing lines that may have become too familiar.

However, the latest images leaked online are raising not a few doubts about the direction the company has taken.

Instead of a harmonious evolution, the recent renders show style choices that spark debate, suggesting that the expected visual update might not align with the public’s desires in any way.

Sony Xperia 1 VIII shows up in new renders, do you like them?

One of the most debated aspects concerns the rear camera setup. A recent render, circulated on the X platform by user @mobaziro, shows the smartphone without a protective case, revealing a completely redesigned camera bump.

Sony seems to have abandoned the sober and elegant vertical arrangement of sensors that characterized previous models. In its place, we find three cameras enclosed within a square-shaped module. This new bump appears positioned in a nearly casual manner on the back of the device, placed fairly low, leaving little space on the left side.

Some observers have noticed a resemblance to the design previously adopted by OnePlus 10; however, unlike the latter, Sony makes no continuity between the phone’s side edge and the protruding module.

This clear departure from the clean and balanced aesthetics seen on the Xperia 1 VII risks disappointing users who are more attached to the brand’s tradition. Behind this visible choice, however, there would be a very precise reason: the integration of a significantly larger camera sensor, which necessarily requires more space inside the rear chassis.

Uncertainties about the front and hardware confirmations

If the back raises doubts, the front part of the Xperia 1 VIII is currently wrapped in a certain confusion. The most recent images show rather thick bezels, with the top one destined to host the selfie camera, in keeping with the extremely conservative approach of past models.

This depiction clashes openly with the initial rumors circulating online, which suggested a modern front characterized by extremely thin bezels and a selfie camera integrated into a small hole in the display.

Focusing on the technical specifications, the rumors outline a very high-end profile. The device is expected to be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, capable of delivering top-tier graphics and computing performance.

Another element that emerged from the leaks is a welcome return, always highly appreciated by audiophiles: the presence of the 3.5 mm audio jack.

Although the Japanese company has not yet issued official statements about the potential launch date, the device’s unveiling should take place in the coming weeks. It remains to be seen whether the final product can dispel the current renders and allay the aesthetic doubts, but for now the enthusiasm around this awaited refresh seems decidedly low.
