Last December Samsung unveiled to the world its first Galaxy Z TriFold, a tri-foldable device featuring an internal display with a full 9.96-inch diagonal (a true tablet). A few months later, the phone is already out of production: it was a successful but still extremely limited experiment.
Nevertheless, we know that the Asian giant is at work on the new chapter: we started from rumors and now there is a firmer certainty, thanks to a patent that shows a plausible design.
The early rumors about the future Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold 2 speak of a lighter and thinner structure, a significant step forward: doing better than the current model (3.9 mm when open, 12.9 mm when closed, 309 grams) is no small feat, so we are curious to discover what the correct measurements will be.
Meanwhile, a patent filed by Samsung sheds light on the ongoing work: the manufacturer is continuing the development of a TriFold in a style similar to that of the first chapter, but with a more practical approach for everyday use. The form factor appears different, more similar to that of a foldable wide: when closed, the device looks like a simple smartphone but with a slightly wider display.
Once opened, inside it houses a larger panel that is more like that of a traditional tablet. Additionally, the patent images suggest various software features related to use in ‘Tent mode’, a position that is ideal for watching videos and content, making video calls, or viewing images, apps, and more.
Clearly, given that this is a patent, it is not certain that this will truly be the final design. However, Samsung’s commitment to the tri-foldables market is evident, which could become a solid and stable addition to its Galaxy Z lineup. Regarding the future TriFold 2, mid-2027 is in sight, at least according to rumors so far.
