POCO F9 Ultra with a 2 nm Snapdragon? Yes, thanks to Redmi K100 Pro Max

The little Xiaomi 18 base is expected to lack the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, but for POCO’s future flagship things would become very interesting. Leaks from China talk of a Redmi K100 Pro Max with impressive specifications, which could have beneficial consequences also for us in the West (with the POCO F9 Ultra).

The latest news comes from the usual Digital Chat Station, with hints pointing to the next Redmi K100 Pro Max. Xiaomi’s future budget flagship should feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, powered by Qualcomm’s new SoC.

According to leaks so far, the chipset should arrive in two versions – standard and Pro – with differences for RAM and GPU, but in both cases with a 2 nm (N2P) process by TSMC. Typically the Redmi flagship pair arrives with the penultimate and last Snapdragon flagship SoCs.

Therefore it is likely that we will see Redmi K100 with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and Redmi K100 Pro Max with the already mentioned Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. We are talking about distant smartphones, two Chinese exclusives, but they are actually of great interest to us in the West as well.

The current POCO F8 Pro and F8 Ultra are the rebrands of Redmi K90 and K90 Pro Max; given past, it is very likely that POCO F9 Pro and F9 Ultra will be based on Redmi’s K100 series. The Chinese devices and the Global ones could find space in October and November, as for previous generations.

What to expect from the next POCO flagship

The presence of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro should also bring LPDDR6 RAM memories (16 GB or perhaps even 24 GB). The camera department should leave rivals pale with a 200 MP main sensor (1/1.28-inch) and a 50 MP periscope telephoto, probably with a third ultra-wide sensor.

For the battery there could be an 8,500 mAh silicon-carbon unit, in a slim chassis – thickness under 8.5 mm. However, in the transition from the Redmi K100 series to the POCO F8, part of the battery was sacrificed, so we’ll have to see how things change with the next generation.

Redmi K100 is known by the code Q11 and the codename athens and should arrive globally as the POCO F9 Pro or F9 Pro Max. The higher-end Redmi K100 Pro Max is tagged Q11x, with internal name songyuan.
