The South Korean giant Samsung is set to launch the next generation of its foldable-display devices, and the first concrete rumors point to a much-needed improvement requested by users.
If the previous Galaxy Z Fold 7 had introduced a necessary aesthetic renewal, updating the product lines after some time, the company had however kept the battery charging power at 25 W, now considered conservative for the high-end segment of the mobile phone market.
The documentation recently published by the Chinese certifier 3C has revealed crucial details about the upcoming devices, suggesting for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 a significant leap forward in charging.
The official documents filed confirm that the Galaxy Z Fold 8, identified by the code SM-F9760 for the Asian market (where the trailing zero indeed indicates the Chinese variant), and an unreleased smartphone temporarily named Wide Fold, tagged with the code SM-F9710, will finally support wired charging at 45 W.
The indicated parameters show operating values at 15V/3A or at 10V/4.5A. This increase represents a substantial upgrade, considering that every iteration of the family, starting from the Galaxy Z Fold 2 launched in 2020, had remained at the same modest 25 W threshold.
Alongside this important confirmation are increasingly insistent rumors from the supply chain regarding the implementation of a larger battery capable of reaching 5,000 mAh capacity on the Fold 8.
The smart pairing of a larger cell with a nearly doubled charging power should guarantee wall-plug times comparable, if not shorter, to those of its predecessors.
Alongside the larger-format models, the 3C agency has also registered the specifications of the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 8, listed in the databases under the model number SM-F7760.
Unlike its bigger sibling, the compact foldable seems destined to keep the power at 25 W, with parameters of 9 V and 2.77 A.
This spec appears quite behind the current standards reached by Android-based competitors. Considering that the previous Flip 7 required over ninety minutes to complete the cycle to 100%, the general expectation is that engineers have at least optimized the absorption curve to maintain the power peak for a longer period.
The brand’s overall strategy could include a particularly varied offering for the end of the year, possibly also including a more affordable variant dubbed Galaxy Z Flip 8 FE.
Despite ambitious plans to cover every user segment, some industry analyses warn that the current global RAM shortage could negatively impact production timelines and the actual availability of these compact foldable smartphones.
