The smartphone market is not all roses and flowers: the memory crisis (almost completely monopolized by AI-dedicated services) has led to a shortage of supplies for the consumer market and a consequent rise in final prices. It is therefore not surprising to see Redmi R70m: the device has been certified by China Telecom and presents itself as an ultra-budget 5G-focused solution aimed at the Asian market.
Typically, Xiaomi’s budget phones for China start from a higher technical baseline, but with Redmi K90m the company has opted for several compromises. This will probably have a positive effect on the final price, but at the moment there are no leaks regarding the final figure.
The device has been certified by the operator China Telecom, which previews both the design and part of the specifications. From the appearance, the small Redmi presents itself as a budget solution, without sacrificing a touch of elegance and a refined color. The rear hosts a dual camera in a rectangular module (with rounded corners) while on the front we have an an outdated teardrop notch.
The phone appears with both commercial names Redmi R70 and K70m: perhaps this will change depending on the memory configuration, but for now it is only a hypothesis. From the certification we know there will be RAM options of 4/6/8/12 GB and storage of 128/256 GB, in Starry Night Black, Feather White, Cold Mist Blue and Feather Purple.
For the display we are dealing with a 6.9″ panel with HD resolution (1,600 x 720 pixels) while the camera setup is based on the dual main sensor of 13 + 8 MP and a selfie camera of 8 MP. The dimensions are 171.56 x 79.47 x 8.2 mm for a weight of about 211.5 grams, with a 6,300 mAh battery and Android 16 on the software side.
The chipset moving everything is labeled UMS9632, i.e., Unisoc T8300, a budget solution with an integrated 5G modem. All in all, Redmi R70 and R70m seem like rebrands of POCO C85x but with a downgraded camera (the POCO model offers a 32 MP main sensor).
