Rainbow Six Mobile is finally available, the first sighting dates back to 2022

After a complex genesis and an exceptionally extended testing phase, the famous tactical shooter from Ubisoft makes its official debut on mobile devices worldwide.

The project was initially unveiled in 2022, then underwent some technical testing sessions between June and July 2023. From that moment, development has embarked on a complex path, characterized by a partial release rolled out in select territories such as Canada, Mexico and Colombia.

Optimization challenges pushed the developers to take a seven-month break starting in March 2024, a period used to address issues, improve the graphics and fine-tune the gameplay dynamics.

In November of the same year the title returned to activity with a massive update, inaugurating the three final phases of the roadmap that ultimately led to the final launch on February 23, 2026.

Developed by Ubisoft Montreal together with other subsidiary studios, the title is not merely a conversion of the product for PC and consoles, but presents itself as a piece created specifically for touchscreen controls. The core structure of the franchise remains intact, preserving the iconic five-on-five competitive clashes.

Players take turns in attack and defense roles, using drones for preliminary reconnaissance, placing traps or barricading strategic positions to protect the sensitive area.

The gameplay offers several options from day one, starting with the classic Bomb mode, moving to more dynamic variants such as Bomb Rush, designed to fit the quick sessions typical of portable devices, up to Team Deathmatch for more immediate action.

The setting is enriched by the environmental destruction system, which allows you to take down walls and floors to create new firing lines.

Historic settings and deadly operators

Veterans of the series will find many of the classic environments from the original game. Operations will take place in historic scenarios such as Bank, Border, Clubhouse, Oregon and Villa.

In addition, two entirely new maps built exclusively for the mobile edition, namely Restaurant and Summit, bring the total battlegrounds to seven.

Also the cast of playable characters is notably rich, offering over twenty Operators to choose from, a significant increase compared to the sixteen available during the testing months.

Each soldier, from Ash to Mute to Dokkaebi, is equipped with distinctive abilities, making team synergy a decisive factor in mission success.

The app is free to download on App Store and Google Play, with a monetization model based on optional in-app purchases related to cosmetic items and character unlocks.

To access the servers, a device updated at least to Android 9 or iOS 13 is required, in addition to a stable internet connection.

In tandem with global availability, the French company kicked off the first official season, named Operation Sand Wraith.
