Surprise: OnePlus 10 Pro wasn’t supposed to receive Android 16, but the company updated it anyway

When the OnePlus 10 Pro debuted on the market in 2022, expectations for software support were clear and defined by a precise corporate policy: three major updates of the operating system.

Since the device was launched with Android 12, its lifecycle would have ended physiologically with the arrival of Android 15.

However, against all expectations and surpassing the initial promises, the manufacturer decided to extend the operating life of its former flagship announcing officially the release of OxygenOS 16.

OnePlus 10 Pro gets a surprise update to Android 16

The news emerged directly from the official community forums, where the company confirmed the start of the rollout of the stable version, starting initially from the Indian market with a phased release that will progressively extend to other regions.

This move represents an exception in the sector, where rarely do manufacturers decide to invest resources in devices that have technically ended their software support period.

The OnePlus 10 Pro, which according to the original roadmap was supposed to stop at the previous version, thus receives a significant injection of longevity.

Artificial Intelligence and new features

The new release introduces the Trinity Engine, a software engine designed to intelligently manage the hardware. The goal is to improve the experience during intensive usage sessions, such as gaming or video recording, ensuring smoothness and stability.

The new battery-saving mode is now capable of adapting the processor’s performance based on the remaining charge percentage.

Similarly, the system has been refined to ensure faster loading of photo albums while reducing energy consumption.

The update also brings a series of AI-based tools that enrich the native applications.

The Voice Recorder, for example, evolves significantly: it can now generate automatic titles, apply advanced noise cancellation, and distinguish the context of the recording, recognizing whether it is a meeting or a university lecture.

Even the Notes app gains a block-based editing mode for more agile formatting, while the Gallery integrates video editing tools that allow joining clips, adjust playback speed, and add soundtracks without resorting to external software.

A more refined aesthetic

From a visual standpoint, the user interface undergoes a targeted restyling. The new Flux icons offer a more modern style, accompanied by resizable grids and customizable folders that provide greater organizational freedom on the home screen.

The introduction of the One Serif font aims to improve the overall readability of the system, while the Luminous Rendering Engine enriches the visual experience with real-time effects.

Great attention has also been paid to system animations, which now enjoy greater fluidity thanks to parallel processing that makes dragging and scrolling movements much more natural.

Finally, privacy and connectivity have not been neglected: you can now hide or block apps directly from the home screen and the management of connected devices has been simplified through new widgets and an optimized Bluetooth connection for use in the car.
