While the spotlight is still on the Xiaomi flagship, another manufacturer has decided to join the game, bringing the double display to the mid-range as well.
If the recent Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max have reignited interest in rear displays, it seems the Chinese company won’t be alone in this venture.
Lava, a well-known Indian brand, has just released a teaser that leaves no doubt: their next smartphone will also have a screen on the chassis.
According to what emerged from the first official images, Lava has closely watched the moves of high-end competitors and decided to replicate the strategy, adapting it to its own target segment. The teaser clearly shows a device featuring a large camera island that houses not only the lenses, but integrates a genuine secondary display.
The design, which inevitably evokes Xiaomi’s style, suggests intelligent use of space. However, being a Lava product, one would expect a price positioning very different from Chinese flagships.
It is expected that this device will sit in the mid-range of the market; a thesis supported by the size of the rear panel, which appears visibly more compact than the secondary displays on Xiaomi’s Pro models.
Despite the company’s kept secrecy, the teaser image already offers some relevant technical details. The rear camera module houses two cameras, and an inscription on the shell confirms that the main sensor will have a resolution of 50 MP.
The presence of this auxiliary screen opens up interesting usage scenarios even for a non-premium device.
Usually, these panels are used to display quick notifications, manage music controls or, a function highly appreciated by content creators, act as a digital viewfinder for taking selfies using the rear main camera, thereby ensuring a clearly higher quality than front sensors.
At the moment, no further details are known about the device’s commercial name or the exact launch date, although the “coming soon” message hints at an imminent unveiling. It is clear that Lava will release further teasers in the coming weeks to maintain high media attention.
It remains to be seen whether this move will mark the beginning of a new democratization of dual displays, bringing a feature previously considered “luxury” or “niche” into the pockets of more budget-conscious users.
