Sony’s new top-of-the-line earbuds are shown in these renders

The attention of wireless earbuds enthusiasts has recently been captured by the announcement of the distinctive LinkBuds Clip, but for many loyal users of the Japanese brand the wait is entirely directed toward the next generation of the famous WF-1000X series.

After months of speculation, a new leak seems to finally offer a concrete look at what the Sony WF-1000XM6 will be, revealing its design and possible pricing strategies.

The information comes from a price list that appeared, and was subsequently removed, on the portal of a Thai retailer. The leaked images suggest several changes compared to the past regarding the finishes. The new earbuds seem to abandon any glossy element in favor of a completely matte aesthetic.

Also the shape of the earbuds themselves appears redesigned: the body of the device seems to be wider than the previous model, a choice that could be driven by the need to host more advanced internal components.

The update also involves the charging case. The case features a design reminiscent of a rectangular prism with rounded corners, also characterized by the same matte finish as the earbuds. The planned colors, at least in this initial phase, seem to confirm the brand’s timeless classics: black and silver.

More microphones for a better ANC

An analysis of the renders reveals some relevant details. On the body of the earbuds there is visible a second grille, an indication that suggests the integration of an external microphone added. The WF-1000XM6 could therefore boast a configuration of four microphones per earbud: three external and one internal.

Compared to the current XM5, which stops at three microphones per side, this hardware update could translate into a substantial improvement in performance. The goal is likely to further refine the active noise cancellation, always the flagship of the series, and ensure higher voice call quality.

Despite the novelties, Sony seems to want to maintain some established standards, such as the IPX4 certification for water splash resistance and the use of memory foam tips, highly valued for their passive isolation.

Is Sony raising prices?

The leak from Thailand also provides valuable guidance on the economic front. The price list cited a recommended public price of 11,990 THB. Making a purely indicative conversion, it stands at around 322 euros.

It’s interesting to note how this figure, although subject to variations due to taxes and local markets, suggests a potential increase over the launch price of the previous generation, which in 2023 debuted at slightly lower figures.

Although Sony has not yet released official statements or confirmed the technical specifications, the appearance of these details at major retailers suggests that the official debut of the WF-1000XM6 could be imminent.
