In international markets Xiaomi has always limited itself to announcing its new flagship and the Camera Phone Ultra, leaving the Pro model (and from the current generation also the Pro Max) as a Chinese-exclusive.
Things are expected to change radically with the next series, which should arrive in full also in Global version. Xiaomi 18 Pro would be on track for everyone, a first-ever for Lei Jun’s company.
But the Pro flagship is not only a more powerful version and arrives with a unique feature in the current mobile landscape: a large rear display, with exclusive functions and many customizations.
Xiaomi 18 Pro Global becomes even more tangible, and this time the clues come from HyperOS
The existence confirmation of Xiaomi 18 Pro Global comes from international certifications: the flagship should debut in almost all markets, Europe included. It remains to be seen when the presentation will take place, perhaps by the end of the year rather than at the MWC in Barcelona — ending a tradition that has gone on for years.
Anyway, a lot can still happen: first there will be the presentation in China, scheduled for September, and then talk of the global release. Meanwhile clues are arriving about the presence of the rear display, a feature already on Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max that will also return with the upcoming 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max.
The latest rumors come from insider Kacper Skrzypek and from HyperOS: within the source code of Xiaomi’s software, there appeared clearly defined strings, with references precisely to a screen placed on the rear.
The new features are not yet active
The so-called “alleged” lines refer to some implementations for the Themes app in the Global version and point to customizations for the rear display. The strings mention Always-on, brightness, colors, controls, notifications, images and system wallpapers.
Additionally, there are references to widget management, apps, together with support for AI-generated content — still on the rear screen.
All the new features are included in the code but are not yet active and users cannot access either these customizations or the dedicated menu found in the Themes app. Development is still underway but there is still time before the international debut of the series.
