Recently we have witnessed some changes that we could describe as epoch-defining for the Chinese mobile sector. OnePlus has left Europe and the United States while Realme has ceased production of products in China to focus exclusively on international markets.
OPPO operations, the parent company of both brands, will continue as usual; finally both OnePlus and Realme will move to ColorOS 17, saying goodbye to their respective proprietary interfaces.
In this turbulent climate, another turn of direction arrives: forget about a new Realme GT 9 since the flagship series could be on pause until further notice.
Realme GT 9 will not arrive this year: no flagship, but mid-range and earbuds
Revealing it is Digital Chat Station, a Chinese insider we know well and who has proven to be frequently reliable. This time the leaker focuses on Realme’s situation: the brand would have halted smartphone production (in China) and should clear all remaining stock by November, marking the end of its presence on the market.
According to the insider’s words, this year there will be no new smartphones from the GT and Neo series. Typically the flagship devices in the GT family are unveiled first in China and then in a Global version, as happened with the current flagship Realme GT 8 Pro.
The Neo lineup, on the other hand, is a Chinese exclusive although some models have found space here as a rebrand under the GT name. The company reportedly has no plans to introduce new models and therefore Realme GT 9 should skip the annual appointment.
The leaker claims that the company will focus on the Number series, so we can expect successors to Realme 16 Pro and 16 Pro+. In addition, there will be no new tablets and notebooks: in this phase of international consolidation the brand will focus on smartphones and audio products. However Digital Chat Station leaves a door open, as in the future a gaming tablet could surface.
