September will see the launch of Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship series, while the Camera Phone Ultra will arrive later. However, new rumors are changing the landscape, this time with bad news for fans of Lei Jun’s company.
The development of the Xiaomi 18 Ultra would have been suspended, and it’s not yet clear what the future holds for the most important model in the family. The company is silent, but if confirmed this would be a sensational twist — given the annual arms race for Camera Phones that each year sees the main Chinese brands going head to head against each other.
Xiaomi 18 Ultra: the Chinese company would have halted the development of the next flagship Camera Phone

The smartphones in the Ultra family represent the pinnacle of Xiaomi’s lineup. Not surprisingly, in September the Xiaomi 18, 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max are expected: the internal trio will arrive with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 on board and other flagship features, but the real Camera Phone of the family would have been the 18 Ultra variant.
The conditional is mandatory, given the recent rumors: the device would have been put on hold and, clearly, this would certainly not be a good sign.
The usual annual Ultra flagship has always carried enormous importance for the brand, even internationally. It’s enough to think that, in general, Global markets only receive the base and Ultra models, as happened with the launch event of Xiaomi 17 and 17 Ultra – announced during the Barcelona MWC.
Cosa significa lo stop a Xiaomi 18 Ultra?
The alleged halt of the Xiaomi 18 Ultra should be treated as a rumor, since at the moment there are no official confirmations. Regarding the meaning of this possible shift in strategy, it is not clear what the future of the series might be.
The collaboration between Xiaomi and Leica is solid, and there don’t seem to be grounds for abandoning the mobile photography sector. Lei Jun’s company has always prioritized this aspect, and its performance has improved year after year. Moreover, the photographic sector is one of the main battlegrounds where various tech manufacturers (Chinese and non-Chinese) challenge each other.
Xiaomi 18 Pro Max sarà il futuro della serie?
With the 17 range, for the first time the company has introduced a Pro Max variant: the intent to imitate Cupertino is clear, but perhaps there is more. The Ultra flagship series is increasingly niche, with aesthetics and features that target mobile photography enthusiasts.
Perhaps in the future of the lineup there is an intention to shift the role of the Camera Phone from the Ultra model to the Pro Max, avoiding the launch of a separate device. This is only a hypothesis: as usual the final word belongs to Xiaomi, so we stay tuned for any news.
