Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro: From Global… to China! Upgraded versions on the horizon?

In 2019 Lei Jun’s company launched a new flagship line, destined exclusively for Global and European markets. The first chapter – Xiaomi 9T attracted considerable attention: the Chinese company had been internationally present only for a few years (officially) and the T family represented an exclusive bet.

Now, after more than 15 million smartphones sold worldwide, the T lineup is ready to enter its homeland. The announcement and sales data come from Lu Weibing, current president of the brand: Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro will also arrive in China and we are curious to find out whether there will be any changes.

Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro will debut in a Chinese version as well, for the first time

At the moment, a senior Xiaomi executive has only announced the homeland debut. However, he specified that the series has been specially localized and tailored for Chinese users. The focus of the Xiaomi 17T series will be the youth, so it is likely to be a line of flagship devices at an affordable price.

The flagship line – with Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max – remains the brand’s flagship, no doubt about it. Regarding the launch, the unveiling of Xiaomi 17T and 17T in the Chinese version is scheduled for the beginning of June, but there is not yet a date.

What can we expect?

Usually the Xiaomi T family is based on some smartphones from the Redmi K series: for example, the latest arrival (or rather, the Pro brother) draws inspiration from the Redmi K90 Max.

However this time there has been a shift in strategy, as the differences between the two flagships are very pronounced, embracing both the aesthetic side and numerous technical details. We cannot speak of a true rebrand, which is why we used the phrase “draws inspiration”.

Consequently, the current Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro DO NOT HAVE an equivalent in China: the company could bring them home as they are, without introducing differences. We can speculate on larger batteries, since the Chinese market does not have the limitations of the European market.

The 6,500 mAh and 7,000 mAh capacities of our smartphones (with silicon-carbon technology) could easily jump to 8,000 mAh, the same capacity as the exclusive Chinese Xiaomi 17 Max.
