The latest rumors, coming from the well-known Weibo insider Digital Chat Station, suggest that Samsung is developing a new high-end CMOS sensor.
Specifically, the South Korean company is working on the ISOCELL HPC project with 200 MP. This new unit marks a size increase over the HPB sensor, previously designed for flagship devices like the vivo X300 Pro.
The technicians would have focused on an optical format of about 1/1.3 inch, thereby ensuring a larger capture area to improve light collection.
Samsung is working on a large 200 MP sensor, what do we know about ISOCELL HPC

The technical characteristics that emerged highlight a series of optimizations aimed at improving the final quality of shots. The HPC sensor integrates the UFCC technology (Ultra Fine Color Filter), developed specifically to reduce the overall thickness of the photographic module without compromising color purity and light transmission capabilities.
Alongside this lies support for the 4×4 RMSC system, designed to reorganize the color information of the pixels and maximize visual fidelity.
Regarding dynamic range, the component should offer exceptionally high capabilities through a proprietary HDR solution developed in-house by Samsung.
The absence of LOFIC is particularly interesting: the company has chosen to maintain an independent approach, in a manner similar to Sony, relying on its own algorithms to handle extreme contrasts.
Ongoing tests and future smartphones
Currently, the test platforms are evaluating the component within a 200-megapixel multi-camera configuration. This detail clearly indicates that the sensor is not being tested as a simple isolated unit, but as an integral part of an entire photographic system.
If initially there were rumors of a possible use by Vivo, the leak source promptly denied the news, clarifying that the brand is not testing this specific unit.
The leaker instead believes that the main target of this innovation will be OPPO, with a probable debut on the forthcoming Find X family of smartphones.
The competition among premium devices
The timelines for the new launches suggest that official presentations of the next high-end devices will take place after the Chinese New Year holidays. In the meantime, commercial competition is getting increasingly tight.
Rumors suggest that OPPO Find X9 Ultra will adopt a 200 MP periscope telephoto with a 1/1.28-inch sensor, paired with a 50 MP periscope super-telephoto with 10x zoom.
Parallel to this, rumors about the vivo X300 Ultra speak of a 35mm-format main camera customized at 200 MP, with a 1/1.12-inch sensor size.
The arrival of the ISOCELL HPC sensor demonstrates how the race among manufacturers is rapidly evolving.
