iPhone Fold could arrive months later than the other Pro models

The wait for Apple’s first foldable smartphone branded Apple continues to grow, but the latest rumors suggest an unusual debut timeline compared to the Californian company’s usual schedule.

According to recent analyses by Tim Long, an expert at the financial institution Barclays, the market launch of the much-talked-about iPhone Fold could materialize only in December, several months after its official unveiling.

The company led by Tim Cook should indeed unveil the device in September, in close conjunction with the new flagship models iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, before delaying its actual commercial availability to the winter holidays.

This particular choice is not an absolute novelty for the Cupertino giant. Although since 2012, with the introduction of iPhone 5, the company has solidified September as the canonical month for releasing its smartphones, with the exception of 2020, in the past staggered timelines have already been observed.

Smartphones featuring innovative engineering solutions or those with the highest price positioning in the catalog have often required longer waits before reaching consumers. Just recall the case of iPhone X, which arrived in physical stores in November 2017, or the variants iPhone XR and iPhone 14 Plus, made available in October of their respective years.

Progress of development and display features

The reasons for the delay of the foldable variant seem purely due to the engineering complexity of the project.

Engineering, however, is progressing at a tight pace, and just recently the supply chain has hit a key milestone in the production cycle, confirming that the overall timelines for the current year are on track.

Supporting this thesis is also the recent online appearance of CAD files, which indicate that the product’s aesthetic and structural design is now final, validating the projects that emerged previously.

On the software functionality front, the documents reveal a very interesting technical detail: once opened, the device’s large screen will allow users to keep two apps active side by side, effectively boosting multitasking productivity.

The calendar of upcoming spring releases

Analysts’ projections do not stop at the winter season, but outline a dense release schedule for the coming months.

It is estimated that by March 2027 the phone lineup will expand with new entries. In that specific time window, Apple should offer the base models iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e, likely accompanied by an iPhone 18 Plus or, alternatively, the new iPhone Air 2.

After replacing the iPhone 16 Plus last autumn, the Air line is therefore preparing to receive its first hardware evolution, demonstrating how much the California-based manufacturer intends to continuously diversify its offerings to meet the needs of multiple market segments.
