iPhone 18 and iPhone Air 2: Dynamic Island shrinks for all models

Apple seems ready to refresh the front design of its upcoming iPhones, introducing significant novelties for the Dynamic Island. Although there was talk of its total removal, at least on the Pro models, the most recent rumors indicate a shift toward a more compact and less intrusive version.

And now the good news: this aesthetic evolution will not be exclusive to Pro devices, but will involve the entire product family, including the base iPhone 18 and the anticipated iPhone Air 2.

Dynamic Island smaller: the novelty will not be exclusive to the Pro models (fortunately)

As anticipated by earlier rumors as well, the change will focus on the reduction of the physical footprint of the camera system and front sensors: the pill-shaped hole will be smaller than the current one.

Although the Dynamic Island will become more discreet, the screen bezels should remain identical to those of the iPhone 17 series, making the shrinking of the island the only real visible change on the front of the new devices.

As per tradition for each Apple update cycle, all models in the 18 series will receive a new, more powerful processor to support the evolution of software and AI features.

However the launch strategy for the various models will follow a staggered timetable, at least according to leaks so far: while the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to debut in the autumn period, perhaps accompanied by the new folding model, the standard iPhone 18, the affordable 18e and the iPhone Air 2 are planned for the next spring.

In short, Apple’s approach for the iPhone 18 series seems aimed at targeted refinement rather than a radical design revolution. Probably the real turning point will come in the second half of 2027: next year will be the twentieth anniversary of the iPhone, the perfect moment to introduce epoch-making changes such as the Face ID under the display (and not only, according to rumors).
