Xiaomi 18 Pro’s Privacy Display shown in video, and it seems to be the definitive solution to the spying problem

Through a promotional video released on Weibo, Xiaomi has shown for the first time in action the privacy-focused smart screen that will equip the new Xiaomi 18 Pro.

The solution closely resembles Samsung’s Privacy Display introduced on the Galaxy S26 Ultra, but promises even greater flexibility, allowing selective shielding of individual parts of the interface.

With the official unveiling scheduled for the coming days, the device is set to debut on the market accompanied by a top-tier specifications sheet, which includes a second display located on the back.

Unlike traditional privacy films applied over the glass, the technology used on the Xiaomi 18 Pro operates at hardware level directly on the panel. The system modifies the direction of light emission from the screen: looking at the smartphone from the front, the display remains sharp, bright and free of color distortions.

Those who try to peek from a side angle perceive only a dark and opaque surface. This solution allows consulting private conversations, work documents or banking data on public transport and in crowded places without the fear of attracting prying eyes.

The strength highlighted in the video lies in the deep software integration. While similar implementations tend to apply the filter to the entire screen or to notifications, Xiaomi has developed a highly granular management.

The protection can activate on individual notifications on the lock screen, on floating windows, or on a single half of the display during split-screen work sessions. This way, there is no need to sacrifice the overall readability of the interface to secure a single message or a temporary code.

Release and specifications

The wait to see the device in its final form will last only a few hours, as the official debut is set for the 23 September.

In addition to the sophisticated Privacy Display, Xiaomi 18 Pro will stand out for the presence of a large 8,500 mAh battery and a secondary display placed on the back of the chassis.

The smartphone will almost certainly feature the new processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, for maximum performance.

With this advanced integration of the privacy filter, the Asian company aims to set a new benchmark for personal data security on mobile devices.
