These are the first Galaxy Watch with Wear OS that will no longer receive updates

Launched in mid-2021, Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic were the first Samsung smartwatches based on Wear OS, marking the transition from the old Tizen to the platform developed together with Google. Five years later, that chapter closes: the two models are no longer among the devices supported on Samsung’s official page dedicated to security updates, indicating that the August 2026 patch was the last one received.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 updates: a support cycle lasting about 5 years

During their lifecycle, Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic received a total of four major updates to the software platform, moving from Wear OS 3.5 to Wear OS 4, then to Wear OS 5 and Wear OS 6. A fairly long update path for the smartwatch category, closed by the August security patch.

Anyone still owning one of the two models and looking for an up-to-date replacement can look at Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, both launched more recently with software based on Wear OS 7, One UI Watch 9.

This year Samsung did not release a Classic version, so those interested in the variant with the physical rotating bezel will necessarily have to look at Galaxy Watch 8 Classic.
