The entry of Apple into the foldable smartphone sector seems to have left a mark, with rumors already looking beyond the first model.
According to the latest information provided by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, the Cupertino company is already planning an entire family of foldable devices.
Among these, the hypothesis of an iPhone Duo Max stands out, a variant designed specifically for users seeking an even larger display. This strategy suggests a long-term vision for the category, positioning foldables not as a mere experiment, but as a central component of the brand’s hardware ecosystem.
The choice of the name Duo in itself represents an interesting element and the result of careful consideration. In previous months, persistent rumors circulated about the use of the designation Ultra, a term that had begun to gain traction even among Apple employees, partly influenced by the speculation of the specialized press and various leakers.
However, the final decision fell on a suffix of three letters. This move ensures greater stylistic coherence with existing product lines, harmoniously aligning with suffixes widely consolidated such as Air and Pro.
Moreover, the flexibility of the word Duo leaves ample room for adding further specifications, which would have been cacophonous or not elegant if paired with the term Ultra.
The projections for the coming years, revealed in the recent Power On newsletter, do not stop at the Max model alone. Gurman outlines a scenario in which the offering could diversify significantly, including more affordable versions or with completely different form factors.
For example, there is speculation of an iPhone Duo SE, characterized by reduced technical specs to target a lower price range and attract a wider audience. At the same time, there could be room for an iPhone Duo Mini, a device adopting a clamshell design, addressing the need for maximum portability without sacrificing the evident advantages of the flexible display.
Expectations for the flagship of the series are particularly high. The American analyst expects that the iPhone Duo will quickly take the lead in the foldable segment, outpacing the current offerings of the competition.
The strengths Apple seems to be aiming for include meticulous software integration and optimization for the new form factor, the use of high-quality materials and hardware components, as well as strong durability over time, a trait deemed crucial for the longevity of flexible devices.
The combination of these factors, according to analyses, will not only guarantee the product’s commercial success but will transform foldable smartphones into a habit, making them the new normal for millions of consumers.
