Google has started releasing a new feature that uses artificial intelligence to provide textual reports on battery consumption, starting with models Pixel 10 and from the subsequent generations.
This addition allows users to quickly understand which apps are having the greatest impact on the phone’s battery, eliminating entirely the need to interpret complex graphs or analyze single and tedious system statistics.
Until now, owners of smartphones from the Mountain View giant had at their disposal a vast amount of numerical data related to battery usage. The new feature, named “Battery Usage Summary”, aims instead to make this information immediate and readable.
Strategically placed at the top of the battery settings page, the section offers a clear textual summary. According to some recent reports, the system is able to highlight very precise data. For example, it can tell the user that the consumption recorded at a certain time of day is abnormal or higher than the usual average.
In addition to providing this useful comparison, the interface identifies the specific applications responsible for the drop in autonomy, such as messaging clients or the same search services.
This diagnostic operates using the capabilities of Gemini Nano, the artificial intelligence model developed by the company to operate directly inside devices. Data processing occurs entirely locally on the smartphone, ensuring prompt responses and respect for user privacy.
Official details emerging from the support documentation confirm that the software constantly monitors background activities, comparing overall energy consumption and that of individual apps with the owner’s historical habits.
To generate and display these summaries, devices must have the latest version of the system component AI Core. Once this technical requirement is met, the feature activates automatically.
In practical terms, the implementation of these intelligent summaries frees people from the burden of manually investigating the causes of unexpected consumption.
When the battery percentage drops faster than expected, the short text generated by the system gives the answer right away, indicating the offending software and recent usage trends in a completely transparent manner.
