Disney+ raises prices in the United States: will it affect us too?

From September 23, subscribing to Disney+ in the United States costs more: the Premium ad-free plan goes from 18.99 to 21.49 dollars per month, a 13% increase applied without significant advance notice to users. Is there bad news coming to Europe and Italy as well?

Disney+ price increases: the situation in the United States

The price increase also applies to the ad-free Hulu plan, which rises to $21.49 per month, while the bundle that includes both Disney+ and Hulu ad-free costs $21.99, just 50 cents more than Disney+ alone.

This is the fourth price increase in four years for the streaming service, with a cadence that is becoming increasingly regular. The new price brings Disney+ even closer to Netflix, which in the United States costs $26.99 per month for the Premium 4K ad-free plan.

Behind the decision is the stated goal of increasing per-subscriber revenue without necessarily acquiring new customers. A goal that already seems to be paying off financially: Disney’s Entertainment division operating income rose 64% in the third quarter.

How much does Disney+ cost today in Italy

In Italy, for now, Disney+ remains fixed at the prices currently in effect across three distinct plans. The Standard plan with ads costs €6.99 per month, with Full HD quality, two simultaneous screens, and no option to download content offline. The Standard plan without ads rises to €10.99 per month (or €109.90 per year), maintaining Full HD quality and two simultaneous screens, but with offline download included.

The Premium plan, also ad-free, is the most complete: it costs €15.99 per month (or €159.90 per year) and unlocks 4K UHD quality, four simultaneous screens, offline download and Dolby Atmos audio.

At the moment there are no price increases announced by Disney for the Italian market. However, given the fate of US users, one cannot rule out that a price adjustment may arrive in Italy and in Europe in the coming months. In the worst-case scenario, the last price hike here arrived in October 2025, so there could be very little time left before another blow.
