Xiaomi launches the smart range hood with self-cleaning turbine

Xiaomi continues to expand its smart home ecosystem, this time with an appliance that rarely ends up in the spotlight: the kitchen range hood.

The new Mijia Smart Range Hood 3 (European Style) has been unveiled in China, a smart hood with a design intended to fit European-style kitchens, featuring a self-cleaning turbine at the center and an intelligent control system integrated into the Xiaomi ecosystem.

As the name suggests, this version of the Mijia Smart Range Hood 3 adopts a side-mounted design specifically intended to fit European-style kitchens.

An interesting technical detail concerns precisely this installation: the smoke inlet is positioned 131 mm lower than standard European hoods, a design choice aimed at improving the suction capacity for cooking fumes.

Suction performance

In terms of pure performance, the new Xiaomi smart hood offers the following features:

  • Maximum fan speed: up to 2,200 rpm
  • Air suction capacity: 25 cubic meters per minute, 9% higher than the previous generation
  • Maximum static pressure: 1,080 Pa
  • Motor: DC inverter, tested for the equivalent of 5,000 hours of use

The real distinguishing point of this model, also echoed in the product name, is the self-cleaning turbine.

The hood integrates a high-speed dry cleaning mode designed to automatically remove oil and grease accumulated during cooking, thereby reducing the manual maintenance usually required by this type of appliance, often neglected precisely because it is inconvenient to perform.

Smart features and integration with the Xiaomi ecosystem

As is traditional for the Mijia line products, the new hood also places a strong emphasis on the smart component:

  • Cruise boost algorithm: detects resistance in shared exhaust ducts, typical of some condos or centralized installations, and automatically adjusts the volume and suction pressure accordingly
  • Gesture control: allows turning the hood on, off and adjusting its speed with a simple hand gesture, useful when your hands are dirty or occupied during cooking
  • Automatic connection to the cooktop: the hood can activate together with the cooktop
  • App integration: full management via Xiaomi Home, connected to the HyperOS Connect ecosystem, for remote control and automation together with other Xiaomi smart devices already present in the home

Price and availability

Mijia Smart Range Hood 3 (European Style) is available for pre-order in China via Xiaomi Youpin at a price of 1,499 yuan, equivalent to about €192 at the current exchange rate. At present there is no information on a possible arrival on the European or Italian market.

Unfortunately it is not known if and when Xiaomi will decide to bring hoods and cooktops beyond China. A large portion of the smart home lineup remains confined to the Chinese market even though recently the company has started to introduce its large appliances in Italy (such as smart washers-dryers and refrigerators).
