The latest rumors indicate that the leading Asian brands are revising their own distribution strategiesdi distribuzione e di produzione degli smartphone di fascia premium.
On the one hand, Xiaomi would have decided to cancelthe launch of its highly anticipated 18 Ultra, initially scheduled for December, preferring to focus on different configurations.
On the other hand, direct rivals such as vivo and OPPO appear intent on limiting the marketing of their future flagship devices exclusively to the domestic Chinese market.
This convergence of decisions risks leaving international consumers with a much more limited range of premium options than expected.
According to information recently circulated by industry expert Kartikey Singh on the X platform, Xiaomi will market only 3 variants for its upcoming family of smartphones.
Leading the lineup will therefore not be the usual Ultra variant, but a new Xiaomi 18 Pro Max, which will assume the role of flagship device for this year.
The motivation behind this drastic choice seems closely tied to the dizzying rise in prices for memory and storage modules. Facing ever-increasing production costs would have pushed management to pause the brand’s most extreme variant.
However, the current cancellation does not necessarily represent a definitive abandonment of the project. The company may have simply postponed the plans, deferring to next year the launch of a true heir to the Xiaomi 17 Ultra.
The tendency toward caution is not limited to Xiaomi alone. Even competing companies are adopting an extremely conservative approach for foreign markets.
Rumors suggest that the future vivo X500 Ultra and OPPO Find X10 Ultra will not cross the borders of the Asian country.
This would represent a clear reversal of course compared with the choices made in previous generations. The past models, namely the vivo X300 Ultra and the OPPO Find X9 Ultra, had indeed enjoyed international distribution, generating strong interest among enthusiasts.
In particular, vivo had broken its long tradition of Asian exclusivity precisely with the X300 Ultra, finally opening up to various global regions.
