Honor has showcased some of the key features of MagicOS 11 during an event dedicated to the new version of its operating system. The update will introduce a major overhaul of the interface and the architecture used to manage animations and performance.
The manufacturer has presented two new solutions named Luminous Architecture and Hummingbird Architecture, developed respectively to refresh the system’s appearance and to make the user experience smoother.
One of the most noticeable changes to the graphical interface is that it will adopt an even more pronounced Liquid Glass effect. The elements displayed on the screen will be characterized by more transparent surfaces, dynamic reflections and animations designed to convey a greater sense of depth.
At the core of this change lies the Luminous Architecture, a solution that intervenes in Android’s underlying structure and uses proprietary technology dedicated to managing the graphical component.
The architecture supports six levels of effects and over 40 adjustable parameters, enabling Honor to modify transparency, lighting, movements, and the overlapping of the elements that make up the interface.
The introduction of a more elaborate UI could lead one to think of increased energy consumption. However, Honor claims to have developed several optimizations to limit the impact of the new animations on battery life.
The Luminous Architecture uses a range of technologies that would allow the system to manage Liquid Glass effects with an almost zero increase in power consumption. The new interface would not be limited to high-end models, but should be adaptable to more affordable Honor devices (and therefore equipped with modest specifications compared to flagship models).
The second new feature of MagicOS 11 is the Hummingbird Architecture, developed to improve animations, transitions and the interface’s responsiveness to user commands.
Honor talks about a system oriented toward human interaction, capable of making the movements of elements displayed on the screen more natural. The new architecture introduces a physical model and an engine dedicated to managing movement, used to calculate in real time the behavior of animations.
The solution does not affect only system applications. The Chinese company, in fact, says that it has also worked on launching, closing, and the use of third-party applications, with the aim of maintaining a consistent experience across the entire system.MagicOS 11 will also integrate a new LLM directly on the device, used to perform real-time physical calculations, manage frame generation, process independent animations, and optimize resource distribution.
According to Honor, the combination of the new architecture and software optimizations will enable an overall increase in fluidity of over 20%.
The goal is to extend the improvement to the entire compatible range, so that the smoother experience does not remain an exclusive feature of high-end smartphones.
In addition to the new animations, MagicOS 11 will offer a more streamlined interface for quickly accessing devices and services in the Honor ecosystem.
However the company has not disclosed precise details about the new linking features between smartphones, tablets, computers and other compatible devices.
Honor has announced part of the features of MagicOS 11, while the official announcement is scheduled for September.
Today, August 6, the company has opened the doors to the second phase of the closed beta program in China (the first part was held in June), launching the user selection for the preliminary testing phase.
There are 2000 slots available for each device; registrations will end on August 11 while the release of the first beta version will take place on August 18 and 28, respectively for smartphones and tablets.
