Apple may have found how to make its glasses truly unique

Apple is looking to integrate health and wellness-related functionalities into its upcoming smart glasses.

This direction, previously explored but then shelved for the Vision Pro, now aims to position the future wearable on the same trajectory as the Apple Watch, focusing on a body monitoring through advanced sensors.

Un recente annuncio di lavoro pubblicato dalla California-based company outlines with unusual precision the plans for the Vision Products Group division. The search focuses on a strategic leader for product design, who is entrusted with the task of shaping fitness and wellness experiences for the entire product line.

The ideal candidate should have proven experience in the development and validation of health-related digital products, combined with a deep understanding of sensor-based interaction dynamics. Such a detailed description indicates a clear intention to expand the capabilities of future glasses far beyond the usual basic functions.

The idea of uniting wearables with physical activity is not 8 entirely new to Cupertino’s rooms. In the original plans, the Vision Pro would have hosted a dedicated version of Apple Fitness+, capable of leveraging body tracking to accurately analyze users’ movements during a workout session.

However, the significant weight of the headset and some objective technical complexities forced the team to shelve the feature.

Despite this, the recent history of the brand offers encouraging examples: AirPods, born as simple earbuds for listening to music or for calls, have evolved to integrate sophisticated support systems. A similar operation could occur with future glasses, bringing the sensors directly onto the users’ faces in a natural and non-invasive way.

Le tempistiche di lancio e la risposta della concorrenza

Those who expect to be able to take advantage of these novelties in the near term will have to be patient. The most reliable information suggests that the first generation of Apple-branded glasses could be unveiled only in conjunction with the WWDC 2027, with a market release estimated for the end of that year.

This initial model could even be devoid of a display, relying entirely on audio input and a complex camera system, avoiding the projection of visual information in front of your eyes.

In the meantime, those who want vital signs tracking can continue to rely on the Apple Watch, while direct competitors like Meta dominate specific market niches with their athlete-focused glasses.
