POCO F9 Pro and F9 Ultra arrive earlier than expected: what we know about the new flagships

In recent weeks, all the rumors and official news have focused on the launch of the Redmi Note 17 series, but now it’s POCO’s turn to take the spotlight. Xiaomi’s brand partner is ready to churn out a slew of novelties: we’ve seen teasers dedicated to M8 Power and the first concrete hints about the existence of the model X8.

Among the new smartphones coming, we also find POCO F9 Pro and F9 Ultra: the pair of devices could be closer to launch than we imagined, given the sheer number of certifications.

The two phones were spotted with the codes 2607APCA5G and 26077PC53G, in the databases of numerous bodies. Among these, the GSMA certification also appears, which accurately lists the commercial names of the models. Consequently, the identity of the Xiaomi smartphones is official: they are indeed POCO F9 Pro and the larger F9 Ultra.

Typically the numbers in the Chinese company’s model codes indicate the release window: “2607” would stand for July but it’s more likely to look at the August/September months. The current F8 Pro and F8 Ultra were announced last November, with the first concrete certifications received the previous month.

For the new POCOs, a launch is likely in the height of summer or at most toward September. In reality there are insiders who go beyond these timelines, aiming directly for October. Clearly there is no certainty and the final word always belongs to Xiaomi.

A Snapdragon heart for both

The release period of the range does not align with the leakers and the same goes for the technical side of the two smartphones. POCO F9 Pro and F9 Ultra should be the western rebrands of the unreleased Redmi K100 and K100 Pro Max, expected in China in the coming months.

Consequently we should have on board the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and the next Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, but not everyone agrees. According to HyperOS code analysis, both POCO smartphones would mount the Elite Gen 5 SoC from last year.

The new Elite Gen 6 will be announced by Qualcomm at the summit scheduled for the 22 to 24 September.

Hardware leak

Aside from the chipset, the phones would offer AMOLED screens produced by TCL, with a refresh rate of 185 Hz and an ultrasonic fingerprint reader. Also, they would be a pair of Battery Phones, respectively with silicon-carbon cells of 8,000 mAh (Pro) and 10,000 mAh (Ultra).

Not missing would be support for wired 100W charging and wireless 50W charging. Great attention also to the photographic department, in both cases based on a 200 MP main sensor, almost certainly accompanied by an ultrawide and a telephoto lens.
