Samsung delays Z TriFold 2 but a new surprise is around the corner

According to recent rumors from the Asian supply chain, the market debut of the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold 2 will experience a slowdown due to the now well-known economic problems related to production costs.

At the same time, the South Korean company is said to have a strong acceleration to the development of its first smartphone with a scrollable, extendable screen, whose commercial debut could occur earlier than the timelines previously anticipated.

The supply chain tied to Seoul’s laboratories indicates that the project for the second TriFold is not halted, but is facing a complex phase.

The source of the rumors, the well-known informant Lanzuk via the Naver platform, highlights how the problems related to production costs have pushed the company’s executives to postpone the device’s launch.

Research and development are focusing on the overall lightening of the chassis. The current version of the foldable presents significant dimensions, 12.9 mm thick when folded and a total weight of a hefty 309 g. Numbers far from those reported by the more compact Galaxy Z Fold 7, which records 8.9 mm thickness and 215 g weight.

The new frontier of scrolling devices

While the segment of foldables slows its course, attention shifts to the potential new rollable (or slidable). The device will increase its surface by drawing the rolled OLED panel directly from inside the chassis, avoiding the presence of a traditional central hinge.

Latest analyses indicate that the plans for this model have gained momentum, with the concrete hypothesis of a commercial launch set in the first half of 2028, if not sooner.

The internal division Samsung Display has already demonstrated the robustness of this technology through prototypes like Rollable Flex and Flex Hybrid, confirming the technical feasibility of a rollable screen capable of extending laterally or vertically.
