Red screen on the Galaxy S26 Ultra? It’s a software issue, Samsung is preparing a fix

The purchase of a top-of-the-line smartphone, with a price well over a thousand euros, brings with it high expectations in terms of quality and reliability. However, the complexity of modern devices, composed of countless hardware elements and a complex software ecosystem, can sometimes generate annoying issues.

While minor malfunctions can be tolerated, a conspicuous display defect represents an obstacle hard to ignore for users.

Fortunately, investigations conducted by the manufacturer have led to a reassuring conclusion: this is not a physical defect of the panel, but a problem solvable through an update.

Samsung will update the S26 Ultra to fix the display issue

The early user reports described a concerning degradation of the display, with the gradual appearance of a red or magenta tint, raising concerns about premature aging of the OLED panel or burn-in phenomena.

The investigation conducted by Samsung has, however, ruled out any structural damage. According to the South Korean outlet News1, the company identified the origin of the defect in an incorrect software calibration.

An executive at the company clarified that the alteration of color balance occurs under specific conditions, namely when the display is exposed to bright lighting while set to maximum brightness.

Although no exhaustive technical detail has been provided on why the problem often manifests in limited areas of the screen, some online hypotheses suggest a possible link with the new Privacy Display feature introduced this year.

The fix is coming

The confirmation that the issue is software-based is a real relief for Galaxy S26 Ultra owners, as it guarantees the possibility to restore proper operation of the device without having to resort to complex and costly hardware repair interventions.

Samsung has assured that the anomaly will be corrected by optimizing the color-correction software. At the moment, the procedure to obtain the correction seems to require a physical step: current information indicates that affected users must visit an authorized Samsung service center to receive the update necessary to eliminate the red tint.

However, it is advisable to contact customer support in advance to verify the options available in your area.

Fortunately, this procedure is expected to be temporary, and the Korean company is working to distribute the corrective patch on a large scale via a standard over-the-air update, thereby facilitating the resolution of the issue for all affected users.
