Galaxy S25 Ultra and S24 Ultra: Battery drain and overheating after the July update

The latest Samsung software update is sparking discussion among a portion of the community. After installing the July 2026 security patch, numerous users of Galaxy S25 Ultra and Galaxy S24 Ultra began reporting a sharp deterioration in battery life, accompanied by unusually high temperatures.

Reports, published on Samsung community forums and on Reddit, suggest that the issue could be linked to the latest update, although at the moment the company has not yet issued official communications.

The most reported issue concerns abnormal battery consumption. According to what has emerged, some owners of Galaxy S25 Ultra have seen the charge drop from 85% to about 5% within half a day with just two hours of screen-on.

Standby drain would be even more evident, with losses between the 5% and 7% per hour even when not using the device.

Several users of Galaxy S24 Ultra also report noticeably shorter battery life compared with what was recorded before installing the patch.

Smartphone hotter than normal

In addition to battery drain, many reports mention an increase in temperatures. The devices seem to heat up even during light operations or even when left idle.

Some users have also noticed a decrease in charging speed, a sign that could be linked to the same software issue. In the meantime, Samsung has not yet officially confirmed the existence of the bug.

Could WhatsApp be the cause of the problem?

Among the hypotheses discussed within the community, one of the most debated concerns a possible conflict with the backup system of WhatsApp, which would prevent the proper completion of the process keeping the SoC constantly active and thus causing high consumption and overheating.

Some users claim to have achieved improvements by disabling the app’s encrypted backups, but this is a temporary workaround and not confirmed by Samsung.

Even traditional power-saving measures, such as limiting background activities or enabling power saving, do not seem to yield significant results.

In the absence of an official statement from Samsung, those who have not yet installed the July security patch could consider waiting a few days, perhaps in anticipation of a possible fix to address the issue.
