OPPO aims to revolutionize smartphone design with the wide format

In recent months there were rumors about OPPO’s plans to create a wide smartphone, though not a folding device. We are talking, therefore, about a traditional phone but with a look that resembles a passport. The result is a more manageable body and a display with a wide surface, almost like a small tablet.

Now we are back talking about this mysterious device thanks to a leaked image and a few more details on features and release.

OPPO’s wide phone is expected to debut in the first half of 2027: it’s not a device coming in the near term, but at least we now have a time window.

An image posted on Weibo shows a test panel, characterized by a 6.39″ diagonal and a 16:10 aspect ratio. Based on what has emerged, the smartphone would have an OLED display with LTPO technology (therefore with a minimum refresh rate of 1 Hz) and a 1.5K resolution.

Usually the wide format is used for foldables: Huawei Pura X and Pura X Max were the forerunners of the genre, followed by Galaxy Z Fold 8 and a slew of new models from the major Chinese manufacturers (it will be the new trend in the coming months).

However OPPO’s model will be a traditional smartphone. Of course this does not mean the brand will give up a wide folding phone: OPPO Find N7 should embrace the new aesthetics, with a launch planned in the first quarter of 2027.

Hardware and cameras

Returning to the alleged wide smartphone, there are currently several uncertainties about its name. Initially there were rumors of OPPO Reno X while insider Ice Universe proposed OPPO Find W: unfortunately it is not known which of the two OPPO brand families the device will belong to.

Earlier some details about the specs emerged, but it’s better to take these with caution. The device would be powered by a flagship chipset from the Dimensity 9000 family, with a massive 7,000 mAh battery powering it.

It would also feature a triple camera with a 50 MP sensor, an ultra-wide, and even a periscope telephoto lens for distant shots.
