Are you missing Lumia phones? HMD could bring them back to life

HMD Global is weighing a return to its roots to win mobile enthusiasts, experimenting with a graphical interface based on the famous “Live Tile” of Windows Phone.

With increasingly persistent rumors about the possible acquisition of the Lumia brand directly from Microsoft, the Finnish company aims to combine the reliability of the Android ecosystem with the iconic design that defined an era, trying to stand out in a market now saturated with aesthetically homogeneous devices.

According to information shared on social networks by leaks, including the user smashx_60 on the platform X, the Scandinavian manufacturer would be testing a new customized launcher. This user interface represents a clear departure from Google’s traditional icon grids.

It is a colorful and dynamic design, heavily inspired by the Metro style and the historic screens of the Microsoft platform, capable of showing real-time updates and information directly from the home screen.

Buyers could thus rediscover that fluidity and that immediacy of reading that characterized phones of that generation, while still maintaining all the versatility offered by modern applications.

The Return of Fabula Design and Talks for the Historic Brands

The strategy of reclaiming the past is not limited to software development alone. Recently, HMD Skyline has received highly positive feedback for reviving the Fabula design, the historic unibody frame appreciated on famous devices such as the Nokia N9 and the Lumia 920.

Current rumors go even deeper, suggesting that HMD is evaluating acquiring from Microsoft the rights to the Lumia name and the patents related to it.

Such an operation would enable the creation of a modern smartphone, powered by Android, but wrapped in a distinctive retro-flavored aesthetic. Additionally, parallel rumors indicate potential interest in the Asha brand as well, confirming a business move deeply rooted in nostalgia.
