Magic Cue to change its name? Google prepares ‘Proactive Assistance’ for Pixel devices

Google is preparing for a reorganization of its intelligent support features, pushing more and more toward unifying its ecosystem under the Gemini brand.

According to the latest rumors that emerged from the analysis of the code of the official apps, the Magic Cue function, introduced last year with the Pixel 10 series to suggest actions and information relevant to users, would be changing its name.

Magic Cue changing its name on Pixel, will it finally arrive in Italy as well?

The new appellation chosen by the Mountain View company will be Proactive Assistance, a formal step that underscores greater and more explicit integration with the internally developed artificial intelligence.

Through the decompilation of the beta version 229 of Google’s Phone application, unmistakable text strings have emerged outlining the company’s next moves.

The functionality originally known to developers by the code name beacon, which corresponds to the current Magic Cue, is now identified precisely as Proactive Assistance. Until today, Magic Cue has maintained its own autonomous visual identity, with a dedicated icon, while already being based on the local Gemini Nano.

However, the new lines of code introduce direct references to the new assistant, informing users in advance that this technology may show useful details drawn from emails and messages directly on the display during ongoing calls.

How it works and data privacy

The concept of proactive assistance is not entirely unexpected. Since last April, in fact, similar traces had already been identified in Gemini’s main application.

The recent updates further clarify the nature of the service, which will leverage on-screen elements, incoming notifications and data from selected applications directly by the user, such as Gmail and Google Calendar, to provide targeted suggestions at the exact moment of need.

A central aspect of this software architecture concerns the handling of personal information: the data needed for Proactive Assistance will be processed exclusively in a private and encrypted space within the device itself, thereby guaranteeing maximum privacy without transmitting the contents to external servers.

The Pixel 11 launch and the company’s strategy

The logical moment to officially announce this branding update seems to be the imminent unveiling of the Pixel 11 series.

Although the basic functionalities remain largely unchanged from the system introduced 12 months ago, the transition carries significant strategic importance. Google is clearly converging all its advanced support initiatives under the umbrella of Gemini Intelligence.

This move moves the company away from the idea of maintaining separate paths and software features tied solely to the Pixel name, preferring an integrated approach where artificial intelligence becomes the main and cross-cutting reference for all services offered.

It remains to be seen whether with the arrival of the new devices the feature will finally land in our country or if Italy will remain excluded.
