The launch of mass production of the new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max marks a pivotal moment for the entire supply chain tied to Apple.
According to sources close to the matter, the main iPhone assembler, Foxconn, is currently in a phase of massive hiring to meet the anticipated demand ahead of the devices’ debut.
According to China Securities News and other outlets close to the supply chain, Foxconn has entered a period of peak intensity in recruiting workers.
To attract the workers needed to sustain the pace required ahead of autumn, management approved increases to hourly wages, higher base pay, and substantial bonuses for those who choose to return to the factory after prior stints.
An interesting aspect of the matter, which departs from the brand’s tradition, concerns the timing of official introductions.
This year Apple will adopt a staggered approach: the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will reach markets first in September. By contrast, the standard variants, including the base iPhone 18, the iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2, will be introduced to the public only in the following year.
On the design and hardware front, the flagship device will introduce long-awaited changes. The Dynamic Island, the upper area of the display that houses the front camera and the sensors needed for Face ID, will undergo a noticeable contraction. The size of the cutout will go from 20.76 mm to 13.49 mm.
This reduction of the matte area will bring the phone’s screen-to-body ratio to around 94.7%, offering a wider visual experience and less intrusion during movie playback or horizontal gaming.
Inside the chassis will be the A20 Pro processor, developed to improve overall performance and optimize energy consumption.
Joining the new chip will be a main camera equipped with variable-aperture technology. This system will autonomously adjust the amount of incoming light based on the surrounding environment, ensuring superior shots in low-light conditions and offering more precise control over depth of field.
