Redmi K90 Ultra has a date: the gaming phone with a fan switches to Snapdragon

Xiaomi confirms the release date of Redmi K90 Ultra: no Camera Phone in the Xiaomi 17 Ultra style, but a gaming smartphone with all the hallmarks. High-end specs, a large display with a high refresh rate, a cooling fan: everything seems perfect, and yet it feels like living a kind of effect déjà-vu.

The presentation date of Redmi K90 Ultra is set for June 30 in China; we still don’t know if there will be a Global counterpart, but given past examples, if there is one we can assume it will surface under the POCO brand.

Regarding the design, the new smartphone in the series closely mirrors the latest Redmi K90 Max. Lei Jun’s company has also released several teaser posters that confirm some of the features; in short, it seems we are dealing with the same Max model but with a Qualcomm flavor.

The on-board chipset is the Snapdragon 8 Elite, Qualcomm’s former flagship solution, while the Max sibling relies on the Dimensity 9500. The brand has also confirmed that we will have the same cooling system, liquid cooling with a vapor chamber and an integrated fan.

The latter has a diameter of 18.1 mm and, in general, Xiaomi promises temperatures up to 10°C lower in just 100 seconds, all with a noise level of 32 dB.

The company has revealed that the price will be particularly affordable, around 3,000 yuan (about €390 at current exchange rate). As tempting as it may be, this Redmi K90 Ultra doesn’t seem to make much sense: details on camera and battery are still missing, but as things stand it seems simply a version of the K90 Max based on a Snapdragon chip (not even the latest 8 Elite Gen 5, but the previous high-end SoC).
