The new Xiaomi Fold could be the first ever to feature HyperOS 4

Recently the new Xiaomi foldable has been certified again: it’s nothing groundbreaking since the commercial name is still missing and the details on specifications are nearly zero. However, the insider Digital Chat Station weighed in on the device’s debut, revealing that it will be the first smartphone ever equipped with HyperOS 4.

Xiaomi 17 Fold or MIX Fold 5, a certification surfaces: the new foldable could arrive before the 18-series

The phone appeared with model number 2608BPX34C, a code already spotted in other certifications and tied by leakers to the new foldable flagship. In this case it’s the approval for network connectivity: clearly 5G support will not be missing, but we now know that there will also be UWB (Ultra-Wideband).

Regarding the name, there is still no certainty: on one side the lineup Xiaomi 17 Fold (a new direction for the series) and on the other the purists, with Xiaomi MIX Fold 5.

In a post published on the Chinese social network Weibo, Digital Chat Station says that the foldable will debut before the Xiaomi 18 family (which is not yet registered with various authorities). Consequently it would be the first smartphone announced with the new HyperOS update.

What the insider reported seems to align with rumors so far: the foldable is expected during the summer months and the company itself has confirmed that HyperOS 4 will be announced in July/August.

What to expect from the new foldable

The name of the new Xiaomi Fold is still uncertain but some technical details are crystal clear: onboard will be the brand’s new XRING O3, the latest version of the brand’s proprietary chipset. There are rumors of a large display of 7.5-7.6″, a 200 MP main camera (perhaps Samsung HP5) and a 6,000 mAh battery, with wireless charging included.

Among other features, IP69 rating and a side-mounted fingerprint reader would not be missing, while there are doubts about the aesthetics. They are looking at the current trend, namely the wide format dubbed by Huawei Pura X Max and some internal details of HyperOS 4 seem to confirm it — albeit with an atypical external design.

And the Xiaomi 18 series?

In the meantime, attention is also turning to the next models of the main series and perhaps there will be a plot twist. At the usual September event, only Xiaomi 18 Pro and Pro Max would be expected while the smaller sibling could pop up later — in the very first months of 2027.

You may be wondering why this shift in strategy: obviously the delayed debut of iPhone 18. The new generation of Apple is expected in two moments: in September with the Pro and Pro Max models, together with the Ultra foldable, and then in spring for the standard iPhone only (perhaps alongside the 18e variant or a possible Air 2).

For now this shift in Xiaomi’s strategy is still a rumor, so we await official news.
