After all the announcements at Cupertino’s WWDC event, there is good news for one of the world’s most widely used messaging apps. After an absence lasting years, Telegram returns to Apple Watch with a native app, already available for download via the official store.
This is a particularly welcome return: now Apple’s wearables can use the main features without needing third-party solutions.
The announcement came directly from Paver Durov, the longtime founder of Telegram: the new native Apple Watch app supports text and voice messages, viewing videos and using stickers and GIFs. It also allows sharing location and accessing all the user’s conversations and contacts.
Just download the app for Wear OS and scan the QR code using the iPhone to start syncing contacts and messages.
The new application is already available for download through the App Store (you can find it at this link).
In the past there was an official application but it was removed due to the end of support by Telegram, in September 2022. At that time tensions between the development team and Apple’s App Store approval processes emerged; moreover the previous app was built on older watchOS technologies. Telegram’s priorities changed and they chose not to develop a new version: apparently things are different now and, evidently, it’s worth it.
