June has started and summer is in the air: for some the arrival of the sunny season means the sea and sun, but for others it means Samsung Unpacked. The tech giant’s summer event is expected to be held in July and the spotlight will be on the new foldable generation.
From the leaks so far there has emerged a double surprise: Galaxy Z Fold 8 “plain” would be the wide model (a 4:3 format, similar to a small tablet) while the successor to Z Fold 7 should be named Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.
No radical upheaval in sight, but a simple renaming, and now the discussion returns to battery – thanks to the well-known insider Ice Universe.
In a post on X, the leaker previews some of the novelties in the structure of the next top-tier foldable. The form factor and overall dimensions should not change compared to what was seen with Galaxy Z Fold 7. The next chapter would have the same overall dimensions, same displays and an unchanged general design.
The real novelty would be under the hood, with an increased battery: from the current 4,400 mAh we would move to 5.000 mAh with enhanced fast charging. Forget 25W because finally the foldable should introduce a power of 45W, and we can assume it will not give up wireless charging.
Despite the increase in both characteristics, the nearly imminent Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra should weigh only 215 grams (that is, just like the Z Fold 7). All this with an even thinner profile, from 4.2 mm to 4.1 mm: very little, and yet it remains a milestone given the larger battery.
The Unpacked event is expected to take place in London, on 22 July; official confirmation is still pending and in the meantime there are no shortage of tasty rumors, such as the first live photos of the Z Fold 8 in wide format.
