RAM and NAND price increases through 2030; Lenovo is catastrophic and preparing for the worst

The recent statements issued by Lenovo during the ISC 2026 outline a scenario far from reassuring for the entire consumer electronics sector.

According to analyses conducted by the company, the surge in DRAM and NAND Flash memory prices, which began in the third and fourth quarters of 2025, does not represent a temporary fluctuation. On the contrary, the rise in component prices has triggered a structural upward cycle that will persist steadily at least until 2030.

Lenovo warns: RAM and NAND price increases through 2030

The multinational, relying on constant monitoring of the supply chain and supply volumes, warns that the industry must prepare for a decade in which high costs will become the standard, making essentially impossible a return to the more affordable pricing seen at the beginning of 2025.

Major global semiconductor suppliers, including giants such as Samsung, SK hynix and Micron, are accelerating the construction of new foundries to increase production capacity. SK hynix, in particular, has brought forward to 2030 a roadmap originally planned for the period after 2040, with the aim of tripling its memory production relative to current levels.

Despite these imposing maneuvers, the effect on cost containment appears marginal. The speed with which the gap between demand and supply widens clearly outpaces the pace of plant expansion.

Micron has already publicly admitted that it is not able to adequately satisfy even the requests of strategically important customers, while a massive absorption of resources is driven by the unstoppable growth of artificial intelligence infrastructure and data centers.

The hunger for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and generic DRAM modules rapidly erodes any margin for logistical improvement.

The impact on consumers and corporate budgets

The consequences of this serious imbalance will inevitably reflect on the wallets of end consumers. The increased cost of raw materials will cascade across the entire range of electronic devices: from PCs to gaming consoles, up to smartphones at every price point.

The days when it was possible to assemble a home PC or buy smart devices at affordable prices seem to be drawing to a close for the entire decade. At the same time, companies face a serious financial hurdle, as spending to upgrade servers and cloud infrastructures will rise significantly.

The warning issued by Lenovo takes the shape of an alarm signal for consumers, who will necessarily need to incorporate these spending projections into their long-term plans, facing a constant rise in device costs.
