We are in a quiet period for the flagship segment. The summer months will see the debut of some foldables (Samsung leading the way) but the launch of the next generation of flagships is scheduled for the end of the third quarter of the year.
However there are rumors, not only for Xiaomi devices but also for brands surrounding Lei Jun’s ecosystem. This time it is about Redmi K100 and the first details on the specifications, useful for a first look at our POCO F9 Pro.
The insider Digital Chat Station has revealed some information about the base model of the upcoming K series. According to the Chinese leaker we will have a smartphone with a slightly larger display, moving from the current 6.59″ to 6.6″ diagonal; the battery would rise to as much as 8,500 mAh with 100W fast charging and the addition of wireless charging (50W).
For the first time the base model of the family would feature wireless charging: good news not only for Chinese users waiting for Redmi K100 but also for us in the West.
According to previous rumors, the device would be powered by the current Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 but at a high price. The starting price is rumored to be around 4,000 yuan (about €499 at the exchange rate), far from the 2,599 yuan of Redmi K90.
As mentioned a little above, given the close link between Redmi and POCO it is very likely that the next Redmi K100 will arrive here as POCO F9 Pro – as happened in the transition from K90 to F8 Pro. For the Global counterpart some modifications could be made but it is very likely that they concern the battery, with a smaller capacity.
The wireless charging of the Chinese model could debut on the international model as well, marking an important step forward compared to its predecessor and a move closer to its bigger brother.
Regarding the latter, POCO F9 Pro Max is expected to be the Global variant of Redmi K100 Pro Max: the device is expected to have the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro on board, built on a 2 nm process, but there will certainly be an impact on the final price. Among other features, leaks anticipate the addition of a 200 MP camera.
Based on the timing of the current generation, the K100 family could arrive in China in October, while for POCO models you will have to wait at least until November.
