Xiaomi’s Chinese event concluded with the unveiling of many novelties, and among them there was space for a new pair of earphones. This time it’s not about classic-style buds, but the manufacturer’s first clip-on design. The new TWS Xiaomi Ear-Clip Headphones stand out for style and elegance, without neglecting a premium audio experience but setting aside isolation (we’re still talking about an open-ear solution).
Just like rival Huawei FreeClip 2, the clip-on earbuds by Xiaomi use an air-conduction system. The result is consistently clear and crystal-clear audio, that does not disappoint compared to the usual silicone-tipped earphones.
Compared to in-ear and semi in-ear headphones, in this case we are dealing with an open format: the clip design is similar to an earring and attaches to the ear thanks to its distinctive shape, staying securely in place. The Xiaomi Ear-Clip Headphones are designed to offer maximum comfort, with a light weight (5.5 grams) and a memory-form titanium wire bridge – for a precise and stable fit.
Each earbud is equipped with an 11 mm dynamic driver; it also supports the LHDC 5.0, AAC and SBC codecs. As noted above, to manage audio dispersion Xiaomi uses directional sound transmission and inverse sound waves. Calls are handled by three microphones in combination with a bone-conduction microphone with a VPU (Voice Pick Up) acoustic sensor, to effectively separate human voices from ambient sounds.
The aesthetics are the strong point of the TWS: the clip design consists of two drop-shaped modules, finished with a glossy coating; the case is wrapped in a soft-touch material while the available colors are four (black, white, gold and pink).
The TWS are IP57-rated, and the battery life is about 9 hours for the earbuds alone, but with the charging case included it rises to around 38 hours.
Clearly this is a gadget that integrates perfectly with the HyperOS ecosystem, but it also offers full compatibility with iOS (with support for Apple’s Find My network). Among the AI-related features are real-time translation for 21 languages and a summarization system generated with artificial intelligence, via the brand’s assistant (XiaoAI, available in China).
The new Xiaomi Ear-Clip Headphones debuted domestically at a price of 849 yuan, about 107€ at the current exchange rate. It remains to be seen whether they will also find space here, but given past precedents (the first open-ear TWS from Xiaomi arrived in Italy) this cannot be ruled out. Regarding other novelties, the Chinese event also saw the launch of Xiaomi 17 Max and Smart Band 10 Pro.
