Xiaomi 17 Max Official, 200 MP and a Massive Battery: the Real Star of the Series!

The flagship series from Lei Jun’s house gains a new member, the umpteenth time since the introduction of the Pro Max variant (Chinese exclusive). This time it’s Xiaomi 17 Max, a revisitation of the base model that isn’t exactly basic: the flagship introduces an improved camera system and a colossal battery, clearly distinguishing itself from the rest of its siblings. But enough chatter, let’s uncover all the news!

Xiaomi 17 Max: everything you need to know about technical specs, price and release

The aesthetics of the Xiaomi 17 Max echo the Xiaomi 17 series, with a photography module Squircle. No circular lens (as in the Xiaomi 17 Ultra), but a squared island that houses a triple-camera array, the LED flash and a few other components.

The sky-blue color returns for the standard model, paired with a classic gray-silver and a new Pixel Black shade. It features a black chassis and a carbon-fiber-like texture, with a very elegant final look.

The front panel hosts a larger display than the standard version: from 6.3″ to a whopping 6.9″ diagonal, the same as the Pro Max variant (but without the rear display, obviously).

The panel is an AMOLED M10 with a 1.5K resolution and a third-generation Xiaomi Shield protective glass; the adaptive refresh rate is the same as the rest of the lineup (120 Hz) with LTPO technology, for a minimum of 1 Hz. Peak brightness up to 3,500 nits ensures maximum visibility at all times, even under strong sunlight.

The chassis is IP68 rated—dust and water resistant—while under the display there is an ultrasonic fingerprint reader. The chipset remains the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a flagship SoC from Qualcomm, ubiquitous in the premium segment.

The internal components are cooled by a liquid cooling system with a large vapor chamber, while on memory side we have up to 16 GB of RAM LPDDR5X and up to 512 GB of UFS 4.1 storage.

Battery and camera: the two strengths of the new flagship

The other hardware novelty is the new silicon-carbon battery of 8,000 mAh: the beast beats even the Pro Max (7,500 mAh), with 100W fast charging, 50W wireless charging and even reverse charging (which turns the flagship into an emergency power bank).

The camera system is the final surprise, a showpiece for the entire lineup (including Ultra). Clearly with Xiaomi 17 Ultra photography has reached an extraordinary level, but it is amusing to think that the Xiaomi 17 Max is the first model from the brand with a main sensor of 200 MP.

It is the Samsung HP9 1/1.4″, paired with a 50 MP ultra-wide and a 50 MP periscope telephoto with 3x optical zoom, stabilization and macro. There is also a ToF sensor for depth and laser autofocus, while the selfie camera is a 32 MP sensor with FOV of 90°.

Price and availability (in China): and Italy?

The new Xiaomi 17 Max debuted in China at a starting price of 4,299 yuan, about €544 at current exchange rates. Unfortunately at the moment it is an Asia-exclusive and there is no planned launch in Italy, and almost certainly it will never happen. A rumor has sparked hopes, but it’s important to note that this is just a rumor and nothing more. Below you’ll find all the official prices and configurations for China.
