Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, no 200 MP: Samsung opts for balance among foldables

The summer Unpacked event will debut a new addition to Samsung’s foldable lineup. According to rumors so far, the tech giant will announce the new Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, introducing a form factor that sits somewhere between the Z Fold and Z Flip. It seems the camera department will also be oriented toward balance between the two veteran models.

Up to this moment there were still many uncertainties about the cameras of Samsung’s first wide smartphone. From leaked images and past rumors it was clear there would be a dual camera, with one sensor fewer than Z Fold, but now new details have emerged.

As a mid-range model, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide will inherit features from both foldables but aims at an equilibrium between the parts. No 200 MP main sensor, which will remain exclusive to Galaxy Z Fold 8 and a dual camera like Z Flip 8.

The Wide version will feature a 50 MP main lens with an f/1.8 aperture, accompanied by a 50 MP ultra-wide. In short, the package will sit at the center of the foldable lineup:

  • Z Fold 8 50 + 50 + 10 MP (or 12 MP)
  • Z Fold 8 Wide 50 + 50 MP
  • Z Flip 8 50 + 12 MP

All devices are expected to feature 10 MP selfie cameras; there is still some doubt about whether the Z Fold 8’s telephoto sensor will stay at 10 MP or evolve to a new 12 MP sensor. As usual, remember that the details come from leaks, so take them with caution.

Below you will find an early draft of Z Fold 8 Wide’s technical sheet, the manufacturer’s first wide-format smartphone, characterized by an internal 4:3 screen. It is a design closer to that of a tablet, aimed at improving both handling and multitasking (the other side of the coin is a “more bulky” aspect).

For the launch event, the target is July 22: the date comes from a leak, while the presentation is expected to be held in London.
