It had already been in the air for quite some time: previously Bloomberg spoke of pressure from investors for Nintendo to raise the prices of its hybrid console, in order to protect profit margins. In the end the strategy was implemented and Nintendo announced price hikes for Nintendo Switch 2 in the main markets, including Europe.
The response from the financial world did not wait, with the company’s shares rising by almost 4% overnight. Let’s see what the new price will be for Italy and when the new price list will come into effect.
The price increases will take effect from September 1, 2026: from this date, the official price of Nintendo Switch 2 will rise from the current €469,9 to €499,9. This is the price in Europe, so the one that will also be applied in Italy. Below you will find a comparison of the price increases across the different territories.
Nintendo Switch 2 price hike: these are the last chances to save!| Europe | Switch 2 | 469,9€ | 499,9€ |
| Canada | Switch 2 | 629,9$ | 679,9$ |
| United States | Switch 2 | 449,9$ | 499,9$ |
| Japan | Switch 2 | 49,980¥ | 59,980¥ |
| Switch | 37,980¥ | 47,980¥ | |
| Switch OLED | 32,978¥ | 43,980¥ |
As you can see, in Japan price hikes have hit hard, affecting even the older models (Switch, its OLED version, and the Lite model). At the moment, with regard to Europe and other countries, there is no talk of the previous generation.
Finally, we note that the increases also affect the Nintendo Switch Online subscription, including the Add-On Package. However, even in this case it is a strategy that concerns Japan, and for now Europe does not appear to be involved.
At this point, it’s wise to take advantage of any opportunity available at this time: after September 1st, the price of discounted products will surely be adjusted as well, so it’s likely that this is the right moment to snag the Nintendo Switch 2 at enticing prices.

The price increases had been anticipated for a long time: Nintendo itself, in its statement, cites changes in market conditions and global economic outlooks as the cause of this price change.
Nintendo isn’t the only company to have implemented tweaks: the same goes for Sony and Microsoft, who have raised the prices of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in the past few months.
All three manufacturers are grappling with the same global challenges facing the tech world, including smartphones (Chinese and non-Chinese). The strong demand for semiconductors for AI-driven data centers has driven up RAM and SSD prices.
In combination with rising energy and shipping costs, along with global inflation, this has reduced profit margins on hardware sales. If we add to this international trade tariffs and the political instability in many markets, here is the full picture.
