Alongside the new K90 Max (the first Xiaomi phone with an integrated cooling fan), Lei Jun’s company has renewed its gaming-focused offering with a new tablet as well. Redmi K Pad 2 is the successor to one of the brand’s most interesting devices and continues exactly where we left off: compact dimensions, a display perfect for playing at maximum smoothness, and top-end specs, all wrapped with an extra-large battery and a few small extra goodies.

The design of the Redmi K Pad 2 faithfully echoes that of the first chapter: the device features compact dimensions and an 8.8″ LCD display diagonally, while on the back there is a simple cut-out for the single camera. The silver and black colorways are fairly classic and minimalist, while the Electric Purple colorway is certainly more vibrant.
Returning to the screen, the panel has a 3K resolution and supports a refresh rate of up to 165 Hz. Responsiveness is guaranteed by a touch sampling rate of 540 Hz while peak brightness of 1,100 nits allows use outdoors. Xiaomi confirms support for 165 fps for over 40 games, similar to what was seen with the K90 Max phone.
The tablet is equipped with a new quick launch button, positioned on the right edge: it’s a programmable key, useful for invoking certain functions (at the user’s choice) or Xiaomi’s AI assistant. Given its gaming tablet ambitions, K Pad 2 features two USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 ports: one is located along the bottom edge, while the other sits on the left side. This way the user can play and charge the device in landscape, using the secondary port.
The heart of the new Redmi is the chipset Dimensity 9500, built on 3 nm and capable of a maximum frequency of 4.21 GHz. It is MediaTek’s latest flagship solution and the direct rival of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
Despite the compact form factor, Redmi K Pad 2 hides a sizeable 9,100 mAh battery with 67W fast charging. The tablet supports 22.5W reverse charging, for use as an emergency power bank.
The power of the MediaTek SoC and the energy capacity of the super battery are managed by a liquid cooling system with a vapor chamber. Xiaomi has repositioned internal components to optimize temperature drops: the entire system has an extra-large extension of 15,300 mm2 while the Dimensity chip is positioned exactly at the center of the tablet and the cooling surface, for more even heat dispersion.
Gaming and top-tier performance, but don’t expect miracles from the cameras: the device features two basic OmniVision sensors, the main one 13 MP and the 8 MP front-facing sensor. The starting price of Redmi K Pad 2 is 3,399 yuan, around €424 at the current exchange rate; we’re talking about the standard 8/256 GB configuration, while for the maximum (16/512 GB) it climbs to 4,799 yuan, around €598.
