It has been several weeks since rumors of a crisis for OnePlus Global, with the withdrawal of some selected markets. On the company’s side there have been only positive communications, and yet it seems the situation is not all roses and sunshine. The latest signal comes from the layoffs in Europe: the Chinese company is “revising its regional roadmap and product strategy”, something that evidently implies staff cuts.
It all started from a LinkedIn post, quickly deleted: it’s the outburst of a European OnePlus employee with his name, surname and details. So this time it’s not rumors coming from a leaker, but from an internal figure at Pete Lau’s company.
Despite the removal of the post, this has reappeared on Reddit and we report it also within the article – removing the details about the former employee. According to what is written, many members of the European team would have been laid off following a “comprehensive assessment of the European market context”: the reasons for this shift by OnePlus would lie in the company’s performance and resource allocation.
Translated: the performances in Europe would have declined and it seems necessary to redistribute resources. This does not confirm the previous rumors but, in a sense, begins to lend credence to them. Clearly the final word always rests with the company, so we await any official statements.
According to reports so far, it seems that OnePlus intends to withdraw from some global markets to focus mainly on the Chinese one. There are rumors of the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe while in India there has been a downsizing: the CEO chosen for the local division, Robin Liu, has resigned and returned to China while the entire structure has been reorganized.
At this point the fate of OnePlus is far from certain: the company has not taken a clear position, but in the meantime rumors are multiplying. In the event of a withdrawal from Europe, it remains to ask how support for current devices will be managed, certainly the main concern of users.
