The Chinese company has returned to producing gaming smartphones, or at least there will be a first, timid attempt. The last device in the category dates back to 2022, but now it seems the time is ripe for an attempt. The launch of Lenovo Legion Y70 New Generation is scheduled for the month of May: here it is in the first images and yes, it really looks like a Motorola!
According to what the company itself reported in an open letter, requests for a new gaming smartphone would have been quite insistent from enthusiasts, pushing toward a concrete attempt. In fact the device’s design had already been unveiled some time ago, thanks to a leaked image.
No pop-up camera in Legion Duel style, no hyper-aggressive look nor futuristic lines: for Legion Y70 New Generation, Lenovo has chosen to adopt a sober approach. The design is characterized by a square-shaped camera module, while the rear cover appears clean – except for the logo Legion at the center, oriented vertically.
The aesthetics echo those of the latest Motorola smartphones: the brand belongs to Lenovo, so it isn’t surprising that there could be some cross-pollination. However the new Legion Y70 will have to offer specifications and features typical of a Gaming Phone if it wants to survive rivals such as REDMAGIC or the recent “experiment” Honor WIN.
The launch is expected for the month of May, but for now it refers only to the Chinese market. Anyway, just recently the company launched in Italy Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 5, a tablet also introduced in China as Legion Y700 (Gen 5).
