Less than a week remains until the launch of the new Pura series smartphones (coming to China), and this time the tech giant has a big card up its sleeve. Huawei Pura X Max – now officially confirmed – will be the first foldable smartphone in wide format, beating Apple and Samsung to the punch. Nevertheless, it’s not all sunshine and roses: the technological edge comes at a steep price, and those curious about the new form factor will pay for it.
Leak reveals the alleged price of Huawei Pura X Max, with more than a 30% increase over the predecessor
The new Pura X family smartphone will return in the Max version on April 20, unfortunately for the Chinese market only (unless there’s a twist). The first chapter was a pleasant 6.3″ clamshell smartphone in 16:10: the result is a sort of small tablet, particularly functional for enjoying multimedia content (in horizontal mode).
Pura X Max won’t be outdone, but instead of adopting a clamshell aesthetic it features the typical book-style design of foldable smartphones, but with a 16:10 aspect ratio. The final effect you can see in the images in the article.
The flip side is the price: according to a Chinese insider, Huawei Pura X Max will debut at over 10,000 yuan, about €1,240 at the current exchange rate. This is a price bracket far higher than the 7,499 yuan (€930) of the first chapter, a rise partly justified by the change in format.
The improvements would be across the board: larger dimensions, generous displays, and the new Kirin 9030 chipset (also in a Pro version for a rumored special edition of the foldable). Additionally, the battery would rise to as much as 6,000 mAh, compared to 4,720 mAh of the first Pura X.
The launch event is set for April 20 and besides the wide device there will also be Pura 90 Pro and 90 Pro Max.
