The new look of Huawei Mate X8 emerges from the first leaks

There are still several months to go until Huawei’s next flagship foldable launches, but rumors have already begun. The future Huawei Mate X8 could change things with a design very different from the current one: let’s take a look at the first leaked details in these hours, both regarding aesthetics and the technical side.

First leaks on Huawei Mate X8: what can we expect from the foldable, in terms of specs and design

Regarding the design, the current Huawei Mate X7 features a camera module that is narrower and more angular than that of Mate X6. For the next generation, the Chinese tech giant is reportedly evaluating a new look, and the sketches above offer a glimpse of it.

The next Huawei Mate X8 could offer a squared or hexagonal camera module, in both cases with rounded corners. Again, the flagship would adopt an in-fold format, i.e., with a foldable screen toward the inside and a rear display to use when the phone is closed.

There is no doubt about the in-fold style (the winning formula doesn’t change); as for the new look, it’s wise to take everything with caution.

Display, chipset and camera

The leaks continue to focus on the technical side: Mate X8 is expected to have an external screen of 6.5″ while the inner one would rise to 8.15″ (a very slight increase compared to the 8″ of Mate X7). The device is expected to come with the Kirin 9040 (Pro) chipset but at the moment there is no precise information on its specifications.

The first leaks also hint at the camera department, based on a 50 MP main sensor with a size of 1/1.3″. Huawei would also be working to reduce the thickness of the camera to offer an ultraslim module (as described by the insider Digital Chat Station).

Recall that the current Mate X7 mounts a 50 MP sensor with a size of 1/1.28″ and a variable aperture (f/1.4-4.0), accompanied by an ultra-wide (40 MP), a macro telephoto with periscope zoom (50 MP) and a multispectral sensor for color fidelity.

When will the new foldable be released?

Usually the Chinese giant announces its flagship foldable toward the end of the year: as with the most recent model we expect a debut in China scheduled for November, while for the presentation in Italy it is wise to look at the first quarter of 2027.
