Google Pixel battery issues: battery life halved after the latest update

An unexpected situation is affecting many Google Pixel smartphone owners following the release of the latest update. After installing the April 2026 update, a widespread issue has emerged involving a drastic and sudden drop in battery life. What was supposed to be a normal improvement in security and performance has for a portion of users turned into a technical inconvenience that causes the device to discharge much faster than normal.

Google Pixel: the April 2026 update causes serious battery life issues

The scope of the problem appears decidedly widespread, as demonstrated by hundreds of reports posted in less than ten days on platforms such as Reddit and within Google’s official Issue Tracker threads.

According to early technical analyses conducted by users and experts, the origin of the malfunction seems to reside in an anomaly related to CPU wake-ups. In practice, the smartphone’s processor continues to run intensively in the background even when the device is not in use and the screen is off. This incessant activity prevents the phone from properly entering Deep Sleep mode, causing continuous and unjustified energy consumption.

In many cases, battery life has literally halved or reduced to only a few hours of active screen. Notably, Battery Drain occurs even when the Pixel is set to airplane mode, confirming that the issue is rooted in the internal processes of the operating system rather than network connectivity.

Google has officially acknowledged the existence of the flaw on April 14, 2026 and confirmed that it has launched a thorough investigation. At present, the company is collecting detailed bug reports from the community to isolate the triggering cause, but no definitive fix or immediate patch has yet been made public.

As the investigation continues, users hope that Google will identify and fix the bug in time for the release of the May update, expected in the coming weeks.
