Recently Pete Lau’s company has moved very close to the world of gaming: initially they were collaborations with e-sports teams, then the shift to gaming-focused features and a particular attention to the display (as evidenced by the 165 Hz on the brand’s latest models).
With its Ultra devices, OnePlus isn’t aiming at Camera Phone (as the vast majority of rivals do), but has chosen to pivot toward Gaming Phone. The next Ace 6 Ultra is shaping up to be a true flagship killer, even if it will probably remain a Chinese exclusive.
OnePlus’ ambitions would not stop at phones: in the brand’s near future there would also be a portable console, and now the insider Digital Chat Station shows us its possible design.
Earlier rumors spoke of an unprecedented device: not a simple smartphone but a portable console with Android, designed specifically for the esports scene and for mobile gaming enthusiasts. The device shown by Digital Chat Station is equipped with a dual grip, rear buttons, the OnePlus logo at the center of the chassis, and a dual camera with LED flash.
It is worth noting that what was published by the Chinese leaker is a render, so it remains to be seen whether it will actually be the final appearance of the device.
Technical details are missing, but it is reasonable to speculate the presence of a cooling system with an integrated fan and of an extra-large battery. According to the leaks that have emerged so far, the OnePlus console should offer an 8″ diagonal display while under the shell would beat a heart MediaTek Dimensity.
The front panel remains invisible: the Chinese company should offer a controller-free experience and opt for a completely touch-based approach (in combination with the back buttons).
At the moment there are no other details and no official information. It remains to be seen when it will be released, since for now insiders who talk about the portable console have not yet spoken up about the launch.
